Rade MarkovićPlease click on each image to see an enlarged version with a description. Born in 1957, Rade works both as a painter and has exhibited his work extensively in his resident country, Serbia. Created at a time of conflict in the former Yugoslavia, Rade’s paintings seeks to articulate the oppressive, totalitarian society that he inhabited. His consequent feelings of anger, disgust and confusion, which escalated into several barren years of spiritual exile, are tangible in his works. Faceless girls in front of demolished houses and demolished futures stare provocatively from the paintings. His sculptures are comparatively positive, thematically focusing on the healing effects of time and the inherent belief in a bettered society.
